From August 26 to mid-September, Claudia Bosse and her theatercombinat will turn an urban wasteland in Vienna's 10th district behind the central station into an urban artistic laboratory. In the middle of the city, a 2500 square meter open space (between Karl-Popper-Straße and Alfred-Adler-Straße) overgrown with weeds and thistles and framed by rails and roads will become the site of visual, performative and acoustic interventions.
haunted landscape/s is a series of genre-crossing interventions in public space in which Claudia Bosse has been exploring endangered landscapes, their myths, narratives and experiences at various locations since May 2024. The focus is on our planet and its enormous global transformations triggered by humans. The director, choreographer and artist explores the question of how we live with this planet, how we understand it, and addresses “wounded or poisoned landscapes, their healing, the traces of the spirits and monsters that inhabit them and their influence on the surrounding communities of human and non-human actors” (Claudia Bosse).
Claudia Bosse views her expansive choreographies as “art of a temporary community”, in which she intertwines myths, rituals, texts and documents with bodies, language, objects and choirs to create site-specific pieces. This is also the concept behind HAUNTED LANDSCAPE on an unseen wasteland: On August 31, composer Günther Auer will acoustically explore the site with a concert at dawn. From the beginning of September, Claudia Bosse will conquer the terrain over ten days with participants from the PPS public performance school. They will present their performative interventions at dusk - on September 5 and on September 8 and 10 to the sounds of musician Katharina Ernst and her drum set.
Claudia Bosse lives in Vienna and Berlin. The director, choreographer and artist runs theatercombinat in Vienna.
