In accordance with the subject of the festival dimensions, sound:frame promised a new form of audiovisual exploration of space and three-dimensional structures.
While space as such (as stage and atmospheric ambience) and the level screen (as a two-dimensional projection surface for pictures that virtually extends into the three-dimensional) feature prominently in traditional visualization, the sculptural body in space, i.e. the actually three-dimensional projection surface, has become increasingly important thanks to the new possibilities offered by “mapping.” “Mapping” permits the projection on threedimensional structures without any distortions. This form of projection has already established itself as an important field of art in the scene and become a frequently employed technology.
During the festival of 2010 not only the façade of St. Charles’s Church was turned into projection architecture, the public space into a stage. The Fluc on Praterstern was also covered with an abstract architecture of forms for one weekend and transformed into a shining and sounding mapping sculpture whose interior was the venue for an audiovisual performance program.
The sound:frame festival comprised exhibitions, live performances, and workshops as well.
