Conceived and realized by Stephanie Winter & SALON HYBRID, TOUR DE NOMBRIL was a performative bus tour across Vienna to the center of the universe.
Vienna, 2017. A small hole for the backhoe operator, a great step for mankind. An extraordinary discovery was allegedly made during the construction work for Seestadt Aspern. Supposed significant Austrian scientists agreed that it was the center of the universe that extended below the city of Vienna. The “Ministry for Cultural Affairs and the World” invited an international team of experts to Vienna for a status evaluation in order to assess the academic, social and economic significance of this incomparable discovery in the context of TOUR DE NOMBRIL.
The performative, interdisciplinary bus tour TOUR DE NOMBRIL saw the public slip into the role of international experts and embark on a manifold process of reflection on the city of Vienna. The new performance piece by Stephanie Winter & SALON HYBRID interwove a humorous approach with theoretical and scholarly aspects. The tours opened special perspectives on the city and transported the newly appointed experts from the Vergilius Chapel beneath Stephansplatz via various stops to a fictitious excavation site on the Seestadt Aspern premises.
TOUR DE NOMBRIL was sponsored by KÖR Kunst im öffentlichen Raum Wien and supported by the Federal Chancellery of Austria and the Otto Mauer Fund.
