As part of the Lebendige Lerchenfelder Straße (Living Lerchenfelder Straße) initiative, the artists Frederike Schweizer and Sissa Micheli implemented their project INSIDES. Ein Audio- und Videoprojekt im öffentlichen Raum (An Audio and Video Project in Public Space). It was an on-site work entirely created on, and thematically addressing, Lerchenfelder Straße in Vienna’s seventh district.
In a sequence of fictional scenes, their film tells stories and events from behind the scenes of public life where the gaze from the street does not reach. The scenes, which basically are about relationships, about taking up relationships, or about private or intimate areas bordering on taboo, have a dream-like quality. The events do not follow any linear narrative structure; they unfold unreal moments rather which signal the ambiguous and unconscious and eventually address an often fragile, precarious relation of inside and out.
This confrontation with interior life was supposed to be understood as a “reflection of states of existence” (Schweizer/ Micheli). The boundaries between inside and outside were broken down with relish, and for a brief moment the walls and streets of the “Lerchenfeld” district became transparent and permeable.
