Beaver, fox, rabbit and chamois: on the invitation of the INOPERAbLE Gallery, the international street art artist ROA designed the facade of the Amerlinggymnasium in the Schadekgasse in Vienna’s 6th district with animals native to Austria lying on top of and alongside each other. ROA, from Belgium, paints his characteristic black-white animal pictures in an impressive large scale on walls of abandoned factories and other urban buildings. He usually chooses animals that are indigenous to the region. One finds his birds, mice, rats or skunks — often superimposed on each other — on “wall findings” in the sea of houses in cities. The artist produces his pictures with simple means: generally only with a black-and-white paint and spray paint. Also, even if they are painted on extremely large walls, the pictures nevertheless reflect the aesthetics of naturalistic drawings.
