Thomas Draschan’s opulent and precisely composed art is set in fantastic landscapes, in architectures spanning cultures and epochs. His collages are populated with pin-up girls, animals, and iconic pop-culture figures. The motifs are taken from banal everyday materials like old postcards and magazines that the Vienna- and Berlin-based artist finds manically rummaging through second-hand shops and flea markets.
An abundance of fragmented imagery like dream snatches or scraps of consciousness induces a visual overstimulation that causes a neuronal storm in the synapses of the brain. Thomas Draschan thus creates a transformative art of superlative effect. Collaged ornamental gems juxtapose sharp contrasts and tell stories of terror and joy, of hate and love. Existential rigors are resolved with coquetry by the creator of Fare Mondi, as he entitled his collage exhibited in the showcase KÖR at Kunsthalle Wien public space Karlsplatz.
