According to curators Georg Eisler, Alfred Hrdlicka, Dieter Ronte and Harald Sterk, "Anthropos.The human figure in contemporary sculpture" was the first exhibition of its scale to be presented in a built-up center of a metropolis.
The organizers brought together a selection of sculpture created in the course of the past 30 years. For "Vienna's 1st Sculpture District" at the Hofburg Palace, only pieces measuring 2 meters or larger were included. French, British, Swiss, German and Soviet sculptors participated alongside Austrians.
