Since 2020, artist and curator Oliver Hangl has been displaying literature in the shop windows of the project space k48 he runs, inviting language artists and writers to write on the windows from the inside. “The words are in dialog with the urban outdoor space and invite passers-by to pause, reflect and discover this urban literature individually.” (Oliver Hangl)
Now, he continues the project series “Window Words” on a larger scale on Äußere Mariahilfer Straße. Visible from afar, changing texts will be displayed in the windows of a vacant commercial building across the entire width of the façade every month until January 2026. Oliver Hangl has invited the writers Barbi Marković, Clemens Setz and Daniel Wisser to develop multi-part, content-related language works especially for this location, each of which will be shown in three monthly installments. There is a contextual connection between the text episodes, but they can also stand for themselves.
With “Window Words”, Oliver Hangl wants to create new approaches to language and bring literature into the public space. The project opens with the first text by Daniel Wisser on 29.4.
