Consisting of Beatrix Zobl, Manfred Steiner, Wolfgang Schneider und Moni K. Huber, the artist group "trans wien - association for research and support of social communication" realized projects in public space between 1996 and 2000 under the title station 1-6. The group invited several dozen artists from various segments and bearing different cultural identities to locations such as Yppenplatz and the Gürtel, a transit artery around the city center. The project station 2: gürtel, for example, was meant to show options of adapting this area as a lively urban space. The artists attempted to point out possible ways of using space through installations and actions. The group's last action took place in 2000 and involved the erection of the "wien station - Art in Social Space Laboratory," a work and communications space for art on Lerchenfelder Gürtel.
