N.I.C. - nature is cool is an archaic abstract sculpture communicating and marking the extreme proportion of simultaneous stability and instability as a reference to the location at the intersection of Lange Gasse and Laudongasse. Three spheres with a diameter of 111 cm each are positioned one on top of the other; offset from the general axis, the middle sphere laterally touches the one above and below it. This arrangement conveys a feeling of hovering lightness. The tangential points’ positions are directly derived from the arcs drawn with a pair of compasses for the new construction of the golden section discovered by Hofstetter Kurt, which relates to patterns in nature. Thus, the installation formally takes up the circular movement dominant in this traffic area and the prevailing relationship to circle and quadrant.
3.26 meters high, N.I.C. – nature is cool is not only clearly visible in this place, but can also be discerned from afar. The installation draws the attention of people walking along or passing in a tram. Due to their right of way, motorists subtly perceive the sculpture when driving by.
The sculpture has no pedestal and is positioned flush in the point of intersection of the streams of passers-by, offering itself to be grasped in public.
