"Art Dropoff" (named after unwanted baby drop offs found in hospitals) offered art thieves a chance to anonymously return stolen pieces of art. As occasion for this project was the theft of Saliera by Benvenuto Cellini from Vienna's Museum of Art History Museum in May 2003. According to the organizers, approximately 40 stolen artworks were returned to Art Dropoff, some of which could be traced to their original owners. All are registered in the online Stolen Art Catalog and have been exhibited numerous times. As a counterpoint to Art Dropoff, Art to Steal featured artists on view at the Werft Gallery and exhibited their pieces in a street-oriented white cube. The loss was registered in the Art Loss Register, which also appears on the Werft Gallery homepage. Art Dropoff was also conducted in 2006 in Cologne: both have been stopped in the meantime.
