In 2010 IEFS Kiesling & Stolberg, the Institute for Experimentation and Issues Concerning Social Units, researched the inconspicuous appropriation of public space by tourism operators and municipal authorities. In order to explore and mark the blurred boundaries between those empowered to define and the defined, and to make the subtle transfers of circulating ideas and real experiences visible, caution tapes diverted the attention sideways, stenciled words focused attention and markings disturbed familiar views. Passersby became participants in the artistic interventions.
The guide Erfolgreich Markieren (Successful Marking) accompanies, step by step, the own, individual positing of public space and the experience of the elimination of personal limits when borders are created. The publication is available from September 2011 as a result of the IEFS-intervention subtile transfers (subtle transfers).
