The premises of a former shop in Kirchengasse 48 had been refurbished and converted into as studio by a team of artists in 2005. Olliwood has used the place as its new project space since November 2007. Under the name “k48 – Offensive für zeitgenössische Wahrnehmung” (offensive for contemporary perception) derived from the address, the location serves as a temporary platform for the realization of artistically innovative experiments and discourses on their issues.
The first k48 project was already aimed at making the new use of the place visible from outside: VALIE EXPORT (Die Reklame reklamieren 1 [New Signs for Old 1]) and Andrea van der Straeten (Die Reklame reklamieren 2 [New Signs for Old 2]) were commissioned to conceive site-specific text installations for the surfaces from which the shop signs had been removed in 2005; the installations would be on display for several months each.
