Vienna became the first European city to erect a monument to the Latin American freedom fighter Ernesto "Che" Guevara in a public square. The bronze bust was installed on 80th anniversary of the revolutionary's birth. This is the fourth memorial to a Latin American personality in the city (until now Simón Bolívar, José Martí and Salvador Allende have also had the honor) and was built at the initiative of the Austro-Cuban association.
