The 33-year-old Mauritania native died on July 15th, 2003 in the course of a police raid. Cheibane Wague was beaten during arrest and then given a neuroleptic drug, following which he collapsed. The persons at the scene did not administer first aid. An independent administrative court examined the incident and ruled the police actions as unlawful. Following this decision, more than 90 artists initiated the exhibition and event series Action After Cheibane Wague's Death. Contributions came from various artistic fields.
