In A COMMON KINGDOM, or, TWO CUTS LIE PARALLEL IN THE SAME FLESH, performers develop a movement practice in and for public space. Together they respond to the urban fabric as an object of inter/intra-personal exchange, encounter and intimacy, exploring the poetry of mutual observation.
Not all people perceive the outside world as a safe place. A COMMON KINGDOM gathers protagonists with different experiences of marginalization and distancing in this regard. In the movement, they explore, mutually accompanying and experiencing each other, themes such as dignity, (in)visibility, distance and familiarity, urban dwelling and immediacy.
As the group moves through the open space together, they develop a tight web of trust and acceptance for themselves as well as vicariously for others. In the process, a loving interaction with each other is conveyed in public, allowing for vulnerability.
"The actions, held together by the experiences of a group of companions, represent the completed act of resistance and occupation of public space. The action simultaneously interrupts and shapes the environment. It plays with being invisible and hyper-visible, highlighting the moving, disruptive body; the closed eyes, in a soliloquy, in confrontation and acceptance - with the self, the other and the environment."
