Pfingstspiel (Pentecost Play)Florentina Holzinger

Pfingstspiel (Pentecost Play)

The Vienna Prologue for Florentina Holzinger’s „Pfingstspiel (Pentecost Play)“ in Prinzendorf is billed as an ‘oratorio for bodies and machines’. In this piece, the performance artist will not only explore, cross and blur the boundaries between humans and machinery, but also test the limits of what public space has to offer in terms of challenging physical practices and stunt techniques.

Since 2020, Florentina Holzinger has been exploring urban space through a series of experimental formats known as “Études”. The site-specific interventions of these Études at the “Pfingstspiel” serve as satellites to the “Seaworld Venice” project, with which Florentina Holzinger will represent Austria at the 61st Venice Biennale in 2026. In the lagoon city, the thematic scope ranges from the element of water, its purity and pollution, to the presence of the Church in the history of Venice. From the austrian pavilion, reimagined as a kind of sacred sewage treatment plant, the artist draws a connection to the Feast of Pentecost and the renewing power of faith attributed to the Holy Spirit. At the Vienna Skating Club’s grounds, Florentina Holzinger will play with the symbolism of Pentecost and add a further chapter to her bold engagement with the Catholic Church.

A limited number of free tickets (max. 1 ticket per person) will be allocated for the Pfingstspiel (PROLOG in Vienna) from 10 a.m. on 15 April.
