Design of the Anonymous Sewn together: Narrated at the market

In open workshops at Brunnenmarkt, Joanna Zabielska invited market workers and visitors to participate in a series of playful interactions: developing and sewing a collection of bag dresses, writing poems on receipts, a radio workshop with market stories, cooking together with ingredients found at the market, a tea ceremony, and a coffee break.

Together with Bita Bell, Verena Herterich, Frederik Marroquín, and Bilal Alame, Zabielska continues to develop her project “Design of the Anonymous” in the microcosm of the market. The generic red, white, and blue Karo bag continues to serve as her artistic starting point and material for covers, walls, and rooms.

Every Sunday, site-specific participatory performances took place at Yppenpark, drawing on the personal stories and diverse perspectives from the workshops of the past week.

The intertwining of artistic practice and everyday life is intended to “imagine new models for a sustainable future and make them tangible through collaborative action” (Joanna Zabielska).

This takes place in the final performance, which is followed by a communal meal and a discussion round for reflection and exchange.
