In October 2003, sculptress Ulrike Truger installed a three-meter high granite sculpture dedicated to the murdered Marcus Omofuma in front of the Vienna State Opera without getting the city's approval. The Nigerian died during deportation in an airplane due to physical restraints and gagging. The buildings authority ordered the sculpture to be removed, but following proceedings, the statue was placed on its current location in December. It has continuously been the target of vandal attacks.
