City Walk –
City and MemoryTuesday, January 27, 2026, 3–5 p.m.

This city walk is held in German language.

On the occasion of International Holocaust Remembrance Day on January 27, this city walk invites participants to engage with Austrian culture of remembrance. Together, we will visit selected memorials to the crimes of National Socialism in the 1st district and examine history, anti-Semitism, and responsibility in the present.

The tour begins at Alfred Hrdlicka's Memorial Against War and Fascism and leads to the controversial monument to former mayor Karl Lueger, which is currently being redesigned to reflect its historical context.

Along the approximately 3.5-kilometer-long walking route, participants will gain insights into the origins and significance of collective memorial sites and reflect on their social negotiation processes.

Meeting point: Helmut-Zilk-Platz, 1010 Vienna
